UNDOING STEREOTYPES: COUNTER-STEREOTYPING STRATEGY BASED ON THE MADURESE CULTURAL IDENTITIES

چکیده

This study examines the construction of negative stereotypes and efforts to build counter-stereotypes for Madurese by utilizing their cultural identities. The are known as one ethnic groups in Indonesia who often become object stereotypes. A number include stubbornness, stiffness, temperamental, vengefulness, unruly, lack respect others, irritability, loud voices, courtesy, education, easily commit acts violence. Through strategy counter-stereotypes, it is hoped that attached individuals will gradually diminish. uses a qualitative approach focuses on views experiences high school students Madura. data were obtained through field observations in-depth interviews. found formed internal factors (from within Madurese) external outside view other ethnicities). positive can be carried out more effectively intervention education at schools. results this expected model change perceptions certain groups.
